A clear starting point for everyday aches

Musculoskeletal pain can make simple things feel far harder than they should. At Penarth Osteopathic Practice, we begin with a full case history and a careful look at how your joints, muscles and movement are working together. From our clinic in Penarth, we see people with lower back pain, neck pain, shoulder problems, headaches, hip or ankle trouble and knee injuries. General osteopathic treatment is our main appointment type for babies, children, adults and older people, and we adapt the pace and style of care to suit age, comfort and the way symptoms are affecting daily life. The aim is to help you move more freely and understand what may be driving the problem.

What happens in a general appointment

Your first visit gives us time to learn how long the problem has been there, what makes it worse or easier and what you need from treatment. We assess posture and mobility, explain our findings in plain language and carry out manual care with your consent when it is suitable. That may include gentle joint work or soft tissue treatment where appropriate. Follow up visits let us review change and adjust the plan. At Penarth Osteopathic Practice, new patient appointments are £65 and follow ups are £55. We are registered with the General Osteopathic Council and linked with the Institute of Osteopathy and the British Osteopathic Association. If symptoms suggest you need GP or hospital input instead, we will tell you honestly.

Frequently asked questions

What happens at a first general osteopathy visit?

We start with a full case history, including your symptoms, general health, work, sport and daily habits. We then assess posture and movement, explain what we find and, if suitable, begin manual treatment with your consent. You leave knowing what we think is happening and what the next step should be.

What is the difference between a new patient and follow up appointment?

A new patient visit gives us more time to understand your history and assess the problem in depth. Follow up appointments focus on how you responded, what has changed since the last visit and whether we need to adapt treatment, advice or the pace of your plan.

Can general treatment lead to sports or cranial care?

Yes. General treatment is often the best starting point when you are not sure what you need. If your symptoms or age group would suit a more focused approach, we can guide you towards sports injury treatment, baby osteopathy or cranial care within the same clinic.
